The purposes of Antiochian Women are to develop among women
throughout the Antiochian Archdiocese a spirit of Christian
leadership, awareness and commitment as taught in the Holy Orthodox
Church; to foster among women throughout the Antiochian Archdiocese
a genuine expression of love and service through works of charity;
and to instill among women throughout the Antiochian Archdiocese and
the community at large a sense of fellowship and a deeper
understanding of the heritage and traditions of the Antiochian
Archdiocese and the Orthodox Church.
The Antiochian Orthodox Christian Women of North America was founded
in 1973 through the vision of His Eminence Metropolitan PHILIP (Saliba)
as an organization of the Antiochian Orthodox Christian Archdiocese
of North America.
The Ladies Aid of Allentown, PA was reorganized under Fr. Anthony's
blessings in December 2001. Currently, the Ladies Aid of Allentown,
PA is sponsoring a child from Syria. They have also raised money
for an orphanage in Syria, as well as for AOWNA's (Antiochian
Orthodox Women's National Organization) Orphans Project. Another
humanitarian project that truly touched our hearts was saving a
young teenagers life. The Ladies Aid of Allentown knew of a
teenager in Syria who was in need of surgery due to head trauma
sustained in a motorcycle accident. Through many generous donations
of parishioners, the Ladies Aid raised enough money so that the
teenage was able to have his surgery. The young man's father sent a
letter of appreciation saying that the surgery saved his son's life.
The Ladies have traveled to local monasteries including St. Tikhon's
and to the Holy Protection Convent. These trips were tremendously
uplifting and spiritually renewing. We left inspired and closer to
each other. Not only do we take trips for fun, the Ladies Aid went
to see the beautiful Longwood Gardens as well as going out for lunch
to Charlie Brown Steak House.
The Group meets on the first Friday of every month. At their
December meeting, Dr. Sami Moussa showed a slide presentation on
hypertension. Plans are to continue focusing on physical health by
continuing with lecture series throughout the new year.
All the ladies of St. George are invited to become members of this
organization. "With God, all things are possible."
